What Alcohol Rehab at Archangel Centers Looks Like

Alcohol use disorder is one of the most common and most treatable forms of addiction. It is also one of the most physically dangerous to stop without medical support. Our alcohol rehab programming meets you where you are: coordinating safe detox if needed, then transitioning you into our clinical PHP or IOP continuum with a personalized treatment plan built around your substance history, mental health needs, and life circumstances.

Every alcohol rehab client at Archangel Centers works with a licensed primary therapist, a case manager, and a psychiatric provider. Your treatment plan is reviewed and updated weekly. We address co-occurring conditions, including anxiety, depression, and trauma, that commonly accompany alcohol use disorder.

Who Alcohol Rehab Is For

Our alcohol rehab programming is right for you if any of the following apply:

Drinking daily or near-daily

Physical dependence requires a structured clinical response, not willpower alone. Our programming addresses the full spectrum of alcohol use disorder severity.

Previous failed attempts to stop

Relapse is part of the disease, not a character flaw. Our clinical team builds personalized relapse prevention plans that account for your specific triggers.

Alcohol affecting work or relationships

When alcohol has started to impact employment, family, or health, PHP or IOP provides the structure needed to interrupt the pattern and rebuild.

Needs more than weekly therapy

Standard outpatient therapy (1 hour per week) is rarely sufficient for alcohol use disorder. PHP and IOP provide 9 to 30 hours per week of clinical contact.

Ready to stop but scared of withdrawal

Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous. We coordinate medically supervised detox through our Detox Concierge service before stepping you into our outpatient program.

Wants to stay in New Jersey

Out-of-state residential rehab is not always necessary or best. Our PHP and IOP keep you connected to family and community while getting intensive clinical support.

The Alcohol Recovery Continuum at Archangel Centers

Most adults with alcohol use disorder enter our care through one of three pathways, depending on medical need and prior treatment history.

Step 01

Detox Concierge

For clients with physical dependence, we coordinate placement at a vetted medical detox partner. Safe withdrawal under medical supervision, typically 3 to 7 days.

Step 02

PHP (Partial Hospitalization)

ASAM Level 2.5. 25 to 30 hours per week, 5 days. The most intensive outpatient level of care. Indicated directly after detox for most alcohol clients.

Step 03

IOP (Intensive Outpatient)

ASAM Level 2.1. 9 to 15 hours per week, 3 to 5 days. Available in daytime or evening schedules. Steps down from PHP as you stabilize.

Step 04

Outpatient + Aftercare

ASAM Level 1. Weekly or bi-weekly individual therapy and group support. Long-term recovery maintenance after completing higher levels of care.

Evidence-Based Therapies for Alcohol Use Disorder

Our clinical approach to alcohol rehab draws from the most validated treatment protocols for alcohol use disorder, including NIAAA and SAMHSA evidence-based practices.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) - Naltrexone, Vivitrol, Campral
12-Step facilitation and peer community
Individual counseling
Group therapy (multiple daily)
Relapse prevention planning
Family therapy sessions
Psychiatric assessment and medication management

A note on Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for alcohol

Naltrexone (oral and injectable Vivitrol) and acamprosate (Campral) are FDA-approved medications that significantly reduce alcohol cravings and relapse rates when combined with behavioral therapy. Our psychiatric team evaluates MAT candidacy for all alcohol rehab clients. MAT is not "substituting one addiction for another." It is evidence-based medicine.

Co-Founder's Perspective

"Alcohol was my thing. I know exactly how it feels to think you can handle it, to think you're not like other people who need help. I needed help. Getting it changed everything. That's why we built this place."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is alcoholic rehab?
Alcoholic rehab is a structured treatment program for adults with alcohol use disorder (AUD). It includes medical stabilization, evidence-based therapies (CBT, MET, MAT), and relapse prevention at PHP, IOP, or outpatient levels of care. Treatment length varies from 30 to 90+ days based on clinical need.
How long is alcohol rehab in New Jersey?
Alcohol rehab in NJ typically lasts 30 to 90 days in an outpatient setting. At Archangel Centers, PHP runs 25 to 30 hours per week for 4 to 6 weeks, followed by IOP at 9 to 15 hours per week for 4 to 8 more weeks. Total length is set by ASAM criteria and individual clinical progress.
Does insurance cover alcohol rehab in NJ?
Yes. Under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, commercial insurance plans are required to cover alcohol use disorder treatment. Horizon BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare routinely cover PHP and IOP with prior authorization. We verify your benefits before admission at no cost.
What is the difference between alcohol detox and alcohol rehab?
Detox is the medical process of safely withdrawing from alcohol, typically 3 to 7 days with medical monitoring. Rehab is the clinical treatment that follows, addressing psychological and behavioral drivers of drinking. Detox without rehab has a high relapse rate; both are necessary for lasting recovery.
Is Archangel Centers residential?
No. We are an outpatient facility offering PHP, IOP, and standard outpatient care. Clients who need housing can pair any program with our Way House sober living. For detox before PHP, we coordinate placement at a vetted medical partner through our Detox Concierge service.
Do I need to detox before alcohol rehab?
If you have been drinking heavily or daily, alcohol withdrawal can be life-threatening and must be medically supervised. We coordinate Detox Concierge placement before PHP admission for clients who need it. Our admissions team assesses your situation and recommends the right starting point.
