What to expect in our Partial Hospitalization Program
PHP at Archangel Centers is structured, clinical, and built around your recovery. Each day follows a consistent framework while your individualized treatment plan evolves as you progress.

Each session begins with a community check-in. Clients share where they are today, what they are working on, and what they need. This grounds the group and sets the clinical tone for the day.
Midday
Clinical group therapy
Multiple group therapy sessions throughout the day address relapse prevention, coping skills, trauma-informed care, interpersonal effectiveness, and substance-specific education. Groups are led by licensed clinicians.
Scheduled
Individual counseling
One-on-one sessions with your primary counselor address your personal history, treatment goals, co-occurring mental health conditions, and progress. Plans are reviewed and updated weekly.
As needed
Psychiatric services
Clients requiring medication management or psychiatric evaluation are seen by our clinical team. Co-occurring conditions including anxiety, depression, and PTSD are treated alongside the substance use disorder.

Common Questions
PHP Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?
A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a structured, non-residential treatment program providing 5 days per week of intensive clinical care including group therapy, individual counseling, and psychiatric services. PHP clients attend during daytime hours and return home or to sober living each evening. PHP is the most intensive outpatient level of care.
What is the difference between PHP and IOP?
PHP provides near-full-time clinical care, typically 25 to 30 hours per week across 5 days. IOP provides 9 to 15 hours per week across 3 to 5 days. PHP is appropriate after detox or for individuals needing high clinical intensity. IOP follows PHP as clients stabilize and need less intensive support.
Who is PHP appropriate for?
PHP is designed for adults with moderate to severe substance use disorders who need intensive support but do not require 24-hour residential care. It is often the first step after medical detox or inpatient treatment, or the right starting point for adults with a stable living environment who need significant clinical structure.
How many hours per week is PHP?
PHP at Archangel Centers typically runs 25 to 30 hours per week, 5 days per week during daytime hours. Exact schedules are individualized based on clinical need and program structure.
Does insurance cover PHP?
Most major commercial insurance plans cover PHP under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act. Horizon BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and others typically cover PHP with medical necessity documentation. Coverage varies by individual plan. We verify your benefits before you commit to anything.
Can I work while in PHP?
PHP runs during daytime hours and requires a significant time commitment, making it difficult to maintain full-time employment simultaneously. This is by design: PHP requires your full clinical focus. If maintaining employment is a priority, IOP may be a better fit. Our clinical team will assess the right level of care for your situation.
